What Does a Fireplace Blower Really Do?

If you are thinking about getting a ventless or gas fireplace insert, then you are probably wondering if you need a fireplace blower also.  Well, it really depends on a couple of things.  If you are getting the fireplace insert for more of a visual appeal to the room than for heating, then you probably don't really need to invest in a fireplace blower.

However, if you are getting your fireplace insert, whether it is gas or ventless or even a gel or pellet fireplace, for heating the room or whole home, then you definately need a fireplace blower to go along with it.

Most of the fireplace inserts these days come standard with a blower, however some still do not.  There are also upgrade options with them for you to choose how much air and efficiency that you desire for the unit to have.

How Do Fireplace Blowers Work?

Fireplace blowers work by taking the heat generated by the fire and circulating it into the room that the fireplace is located in. Without taking the fumes or byproducts of combustion, a fireplace blower is one of the best ways to deliver the most heat from your fireplace for heating your room.

Most fireplace blowers are inserts that you can purchase seperately for regular wood burning fireplaces. However, most ventless, gel and pellet fireplaces come with a blower, or at least an option to install a blower.

The tubes of the fireplace blower act like a conductor for the heat that is generated by the fire and a small blower or fan circulates air into the tubes, allows it to heat to a thermostat controlled temperature and then delivers that air back into the room.

Using a fireplace blower is one of the smartest uses of a fireplace to give you heat that you can control the temperature of while not distracting from the visual appeal of the fire. While there is some noise associated with them, most are fairly quiet and work well.
